Our Commitment to Carbon Transparency
At The Specialty Mfg. Company, we believe that measuring our environmental impact is the first step toward meaningful reduction. We’re committed to transparency in our carbon footprint reporting across all three recognized emission scopes. By measuring and understanding these emissions, we’re developing targeted strategies to reduce our carbon footprint across all three scopes. We’re committed to working with our suppliers, customers, and employees to find sustainable solutions throughout our value chain.
Scope 1: Direct Emissions
835,950 lbs CO₂ annually
These are emissions directly produced by our company activities:
- Company vehicle usage
- Propane consumption for forklifts
- Natural gas for heating facilities
- Off-gassing from plastic injection molding processes
- Fire suppression system deployments
Scope 2: Indirect Emissions
5,411,552 lbs CO₂ annually
These emissions result from the energy we purchase:
- Electricity consumption across all facilities
- Partially offset through our solar panel installations
Note: Most of our customers require only Scope 1 & 2 disclosures
Scope 3: Indirect Emissions from products and services
1,455,176 lbs CO₂ annually
These emissions occur along our broader value chain:
Upstream Sources:
- Raw material production (particularly metals)
- Inbound logistics from suppliers
- Processing of operational waste
- Employee commuting and business travel
Downstream Sources:
- Outbound shipping to customers
- Product use and end-of-life disposal
- Energy consumption in leased facilities
The most significant contributor within Scope 3 is raw material production
